CANDIDATE QUESTIONS:

1.      What do you think are the three most pressing issues facing the city or district? What would you do about them?

My top priorities are to promote transportation alternatives, ease congestion and solve parking problems; to promote sustainable, low impact development to preserve Poulsbo’s unique character; and to bring people together in early public participation.

2.      Why do you think you are better qualified to hold this position than your opponent(s)?

I have diligently pursued further education, attended seminars and workshops, and achieved my advanced Certified Municipal Leader certification through Association of Washington Cities (see attached) in order to bring new ideas, technologies and strategies back to the citizens of Poulsbo. I have been proactive rather than reactive in planning to accommodate new growth by seeking alternative solutions that fit the structure of the Growth Management Act, including low impact development, and promoted increased public participation. Neither of my opponents has tried to further their education through these opportunities.

3.      What specific issues do you think the current members have handled well in the past year or two? What did this show about how well the board or council functions?

The city has not moved forward in the past seven or eight years. It’s not up to me to say what they’ve done best, but what I can do better.  I will pursue living wage jobs for Poulsbo, look for solutions to our parking problems and make sure the public is involved in the new municipal campus at a very early stage.

4.      What issues could have been handled better? How? Did these illustrate any general problems in how this board or council functions?

Executive matters have been divulged outside of executive sessions, showing members’ inability to keep confidences. The downtown business owners are upset that their concerns have not been listened to. This underscores the need for more public participation early in the process.
